about

Turning their back on the stripped back acoustic approach of previous incarnations, for their full-band debut Lazy Colts have opted for brooding, cinematic landscapes, explosive drums and unhinged sonic textures assisted by the incomparable talents of Canadian mixing engineer Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Timber Timbre).

Slackjaw warns of the allure of abusive relationships with disjointed imagery, pithy realisations and unconventional instrumentation. The song builds with trance-like rhythmic hooks and textures taking its cues from film scores and soundtracks.  ‘You can tell, listening to Slackjaw that we were more interested in making a movie than a pop song,’ announces Lacey, ‘Its all blood, canyons and car chases without a chorus to be found.’

Slackjaw’s music video features Charlie ‘One-Boy’ Paulsa, shot during the last week of his time living in the historic Strickland House in Chippendale, his home for over 30 years. The video picks up its stylistic and thematic inspiration from the song itself. Visually reminiscent of 50s film-noir it depicts One-Boy’s wonderful performance as the film’s protagonist, caught in various states of paranoia.

It was directed by Cole and filmed by Sarah Adamson, the pair behind last year’s Nephilim’s Lament music video featuring 100-year-old dancer Eileen Kramer. The story of both the video, and the subsequent collaborations between Kramer and Cole, was featured on ABC’s Compass and the video itself was featured on Channel Ten’s The Project as well as in articles by The Huffington Post, Amy Poeler’s Smart Girls and News Corp publications Australia-wide.
