"Drinking With Angels" is taken from the upcoming debut album Other Ways To Say The Same Thing.
The first single off the album Other Ways To Say The Same Thing is the upbeat cautionary tale "Drinking WIth Angels". It is an introduction to Cole's romantic imagery and thematic interests. It reveals his underlying pop sensibilities, rumbling beneath a wearied country swagger and driving Springsteen-like grit. The single will be available on 7" vinyl (with download card) or as a digital download. It is being released independently and can be purchased from iTunes and other online retailers, the online store located at www.laceycole.com or at shows.
Drinking With Angels
It’s a city of wolves and they hiss through their teeth the wicked way love gets twisted by the most common thief; “lie, lie, lie, yeah, huff, puff let me in!”
But you’re better than that, yeah you’re better than that and I’m sick of all the fighting, I blame it on the fact that the deck’s dead dry but water’s somewhere creeping in.
So I come dancing ‘cross the sky and I come looking for trouble until I can reach your hand with mine, just get close enough, and I’ll take you drinking with angels.
With their Tanqueray dreams and their amorous eyes they’ve been stalking the sidewalk, setting alight wounded souls so sold out and disguised.
So darling you better not turn ‘round, just stare straight ahead, keep your cards sleeved, head down, don’t show you’re scared, no, don’t show your frightened eyes…
‘Till I come dancing ‘cross the sky, ‘till I come looking for trouble until I can reach your hand with mine, just get close enough, and I’ll take you drinking with angels.
I come dancing ‘cross the sky, I come looking for trouble until I can reach your hand with mine, just get close enough, and I’ll take you tired as hell, from the echoing knell, drinking, drinking with angels.
